
Wisconsin Court of Appeals District II Judge Lisa S . Neubauer Announces Plans to Retire in 2026

Lisa Neubauer, who served as Chief Judge of the Wisconsin Court of Appeals from 2015 to 2021 has announced that she plans to retire after her term ends on July 31,2026 following 18 years of service on the court.
Neubauer, 68, was appointed to the court in 2007, and ran unsuccessfully for a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court in 2019. Prior to her appointment, she was in private practice with the Milwaukee-based Foley and Lardner. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1979 and her law degree from the Univeristy of Chicago, with honors, in 1987.
She is the mother of Wisconsin Assembly Minority Leader Greta Neubauer (D-Racine).
Neubauer said she was “honored and humbled” to have served on the bench, and that she attempted to make a difference for the bench, the bar and the public by providing and fair decisions and treating everyone with respect, despite challenges.
“In these trying and divided times, our courts must protect our democracy, our liberty, and our rights, by maintaining judicial independence and upholding the constitution and the rule of law,” Neubauer said in the statement. “I have attempted to do that with every single decision.”
